STILTASANA - A CARPETBAG BRIGADE ACROBATIC STILT WORKSHOP
Stiltasana is the quintessential Carpetbag Brigade pedagogical experience. It contains the full flavors of our technique and its evolution and application to improvisation, form, and composition. Stiltasana is for performers, stilters, dancers, yogis, and those with a deep curiosity to explore the capacity of their body by mixing acrobatic stilts, yoga, butoh, release-based dance work, vocal expression, physical theater, and contact improvisation.
We will work on stilts with still point exercises, partner walks, inversions & oppositions and graceful ground movement using the stilt apparatus as limitation and advantage. Exercises for falling gracefully, effortlessly and safely to the ground will be taught along with a focus on partner work for lifts. With a mix of technique and improvisation participants will learn fundamental stilt sequences, acro-tricks, and corporal tools to evolve individual forms with others.
Stiltasana is an invitation to engage in an evolving performance modality whose possibilities reach into spectacle-based drama, somatic research, and cross-cultural integration.
